The Board and staff of the Ketchikan Theatre Ballet (KTB), like you, want to continue our in person classes as safely and practically as possible and within the Governor’s, Local Borough, City of Ketchikan, the EOC’s, and the CDC’s guidance. These guidelines must be practiced until further notice, regardless of what stage Alaska is implementing.

These guidelines are effective at slowing the spread of Covid-19 and keeping our community safe. Your involvement at KTB requires your attention and care following these guidelines so that we can all remain safe and continue dancing. We must all participate in this Covid-19 Mitigation Plan to the highest degree of our vigilance and awareness out of respect for everyone at KTB.

Section I: Attendance

  • All participants in class and rehearsal must pre-register.  We cannot allow drop-ins. If anyone besides a registered dancer needs to come to the studio for any reason, arrangements must be made ahead of time. Dancers must only be present at the studio for the length of their scheduled class time(s).

  • Dancers waiting for their first class of the day to start should remain in their cars until 10 minutes before the beginning of their first scheduled class of the day.

  • Timed entry into the building will take place starting no more than 10 minutes before each class.

  • An attendance log will be present for each day and class occurring onsite, including phone numbers to facilitate contact tracing of a confirmed exposure.

  • Parents will not be allowed inside the facility at any time.

  • Cloth face coverings for dancers are required when entering and exiting the classroom/building.  Dancers are not currently required to wear masks during class but can choose to do so at their own/their parent’s discretion.

  • In all studio common areas (hallways, waiting areas, etc) social distancing of 6 feet must be followed. Appropriate spacing is clearly marked.

  • When class ends, dancers must promptly gather their belongings, maintain social distancing of 6 feet from others, and leave the building to provide for a clear area for the next group.

Section 2: Participants

  • The parent or legal guardian must fill out the required Covid Waiver forms (included in the registration form) and fulfill the assurance required on behalf of the minor child(ren) in their care. This form must be submitted electronically.

Section 3: Health Status Screening – Participants, Teachers, Staff, and Volunteers

  • Participants must agree not to come to the studio if they:

    • Are exhibiting the current CDC recognized symptoms consistent with COVID-19;

    • Have knowingly been in contact with a suspected or positive case of COVID-19 within the past 14 days;

    • Are within 72 hours of exhibiting significant COVID-19 symptoms or a fever;

    • When recovering from a case of COVID-19, are less than 14 days from onset or less than 72 hours since the end of significant symptoms or fever.

    • Have not been in the state for 14 days symptom free as long as Health Mandate 10.1 – International and Interstate Travel – Order for Self Quarantine is in effect

    • After returning from a trip away from Alaska, a minimum quarantine is required regardless of initial negative Covid-19 testing, as mandated by the EOC

  • Temperature Checks: Teachers, participants, and volunteers will have their temperature taken using an infrared non-contact forehead thermometer prior to entering the facility. Any entrant who possesses a reading of 100.4 Fahrenheit or higher according to CDC definitions of reportable illness for contagious disease will be denied entry.

    • Temperature checks will be recorded on a log sheet and all entry will be timed at intervals with admittance no more than ten minutes before the start of class

  • Participants must agree to inform someone from the Organization if they do become sick within seven days of participation in class so that other Participants can be informed that they should monitor for symptoms and practice social distancing.

  • Parents/Guardians must leave their children with volunteers at the door. There will be no parents/guardians/spectators/guests in the building.

Section 4: Symptoms

  • Any teacher or dancer who is sick, has a persistent cough, is running a temperature or is displaying any symptoms suggesting illness (from any contagious malady, including cold, flu, or suspected coronavirus) will be prohibited from entering the building. Dancers, teachers, parents, or volunteers with any symptoms of COVID-19 must not come to the studio.

Section 5: Minimize Physical Contact

  • With social distancing practices, dancers and teachers must refrain from physical contact. We understand that this may be difficult, but we need to be diligent at enforcing this protocol for the health and safety of our dancers and their families.

  • All dancers, teachers, staff, and volunteers must practice social distancing of 6 ft whenever possible.

  • Teachers will continue to alter their training methods to incorporate appropriate social distancing.

  • Visual indicators of proper spacing are marked in the studio and common areas.

  • Teachers and staff are required to wear appropriate face coverings at all times.

  • Dancers should have their own hand sanitizer for personal use. Hand sanitizing stations will be present at the studio.

  • Sharing of equipment will not be allowed.

Section 6: Facility structures cleaning and use

  • All facilities will be cleaned and disinfected between classes.

  • Rest Rooms: Rest rooms are limited occupancy to one person at a time. Break times are modified to account for this.

  • Changing Rooms will be available for students coming directly from school.  Dancers who are able should come in appropriate attire underneath their street clothes to minimize the use of the changing rooms.  Dance attire should be consistently laundered at home after all workouts. Please arrive at the studio covered up in clothing over your dance clothing.

  • Dancers and teachers must practice proper hygiene, wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer, abstain from touching their face, and cover their cough or sneeze with a tissue and throw tissue in the trash.

Section 6: Activity Mitigation Actions

  • Limit one class (maximum 8 students) to each studio.

  • Dancers must bring their own water. Absolutely no sharing.

  • Teachers and staff may welcome each dancer as they come to the facility but must not make physical contact with the dancer.

  • Individual activities only.

  • Designated space for each dancer. The size of the space for each dancer will depend on the technique on which you are working and accommodations for the skill level of the dancer.

  • There will be time between the end of one class and the beginning of the next class to provide distancing and sanitize the studio.

Section 7: Dancers Returning to KTB After Being Away from Ketchikan

  • Dancers that have been away from Ketchikan or that plan to leave and return before the end of classes this fall must inform KTB Staff. KTB requests that all traveling students send their itinerary to management so that management can accurately plan for the required quarantine after a dancer returns to Ketchikan.
